MY INCREDIBLE NETBALL JOURNAL: A must-have book for netball lovers
By Eliza McCann (co-author My Incredible Netball Journal)
Did you wish you had a journal when you were younger in which you recorded the highs and lows of your sporting moments? We hear it from parents all the time “Oh! I wish I had a fun book like this when I was playing netball!”
As we get older, we realise how important it is to keep a record of both life’s achievements and its challenges. In a world that is becoming increasingly busy, we love the idea that kids can take time off their screens by using this netball journal to record everything from their scores to how they felt on game day.
We cover everything netball related, from how to make healthy eating choices, becoming ‘game day ready’ and encouraging players to think about what it means to be part of a team. This journal is bursting at the seams with inspiration, not only about the sport itself but also about developing a good attitude to sportsmanship and positivity, two virtues that bring balance to a kid’s life.
With great training tips, fun homework drills, cupcake recipes and stickers, there’s plenty of fun activities inside this netball diary to keep young netballers entertained!
Watch out parents, there are even awards just for you! Who is the adult most likely to use a naughty word? We have all sorts of awards that will give both you and your child something to laugh and talk about.
A netball journal for all
My Incredible Netball Journal is a collaboration between Sue Cox and I, both netball mums who wanted to share our love of netball. When we created the book we envisaged a team that would appeal to all kids, whether they be short or tall, boy or girl!
Netball doesn’t discriminate and is a welcoming group sport open to everyone. Sue and I spent many, many hours sitting at our kitchen tables nutting out the content and making sure it was just right. We edited and then we edited again and just when we thought we were done editing, we went through it one more time!
Sue wanted a book that went beyond just the facts, so the journal includes everything from sporting etiquette to nutrition.
“When I coach I take an holistic approach and push kids to evaluate themselves both on and off the court. I have a strong emphasis on teamwork. I also talk about physical health, the importance of stretching and why training is so important. So I wanted the journal to convey all of this in a really fun and digestible way.”
We both believed that book should reflect that and this led us in coming up with a team of 7 kids and a coach called Sam, each of which your child can easily relate to.

Hi MOLLY! Her favourite position is Wing Attack. She’s a very popular team member because she loves to bake cakes and brings them to training.
G’day MAX! Max is a great shooter. He also loves hip hop and might break out some moves on the court when his team wins.
Bonjour MALIA. She’s the tallest girl in her grade and loves to play Goal Keeper. Guess what? She also likes high jump!
Roll up, NICOLE! Nicole is quick on her feet and a tough defender. She also goes to circus school and does gymnastics! She might even get into the Guinness Book of Records for Most Cartwheels ever!
Giddy Up, SCOUT! Scout is great defender and won’t let the ball get past her! She loves to horse ride and knows sign language. She’s teaching her team how to sign so they’ll definitely have an advantage next season!

The Coach of this rowdy rabble is Sam! She’s very fit given that she’s a landscape gardener and works outdoors all day. She also loves rock climbing and is going to audition for Ninja Warrior next year! She’s patient and loves training the team.
Diamonds keep journals too!
We had a fantastic chat with Lisa Alexander, head coach of The Diamonds, who mentioned that she gives all of her players, and staff, a gold journal to document their season. Many young netballers love the idea of setting goals for the season. Whether it’s scoring lots of goals or enjoying the team spirit and making new friends, setting goals gives both motivation and focus. Coach Lisa firmly believes that you’re never too young to start recording your sporting experiences.
Get journaling with the My Incredible Netball Journal and bring on the next generation of Diamonds!
We have also recently partnered up with C2C Sport, the official Diamonds netball dress and merchandise provider, to bring the journal to many other netball lovers like us. We are happy that the book is now available in their online shop, so your copy is just a click away.
Happy journaling everyone!
