Exclusive Chat with C2C Sport Ambassador Sharni Layton
The team at C2C Sport caught up with C2C Sport Ambassador and Collingwood Magpies netball star Sharni Layton for a chat about the who, what, when and where of this magnificent human being.
C2C: Why do you love netball?
SHARNI: Too many reason’s to write. From the social aspect growing up and keeping me off the streets. Learning team behaviour and good culture that can now relate to any workplace/life in general. The relationships/life long friendships built. Sharing the sweat and tears and also the joy and laughter with other people is what life is all about. How much it constantly challenges me mentally and physically and constantly pushes me to be a better player and person.
SHARNI: Over the years I have grabbed different aspects of different players that I have wanted to add to my game. Mo’onia Gerrards exceptional footwork, skill and intimidation factor. Liz Ellis ability to anticipate and get the intercept no matter the size of the GS, Casey Kopua pure athleticism in the air and ability to read the play. Janine Illitch’s tenaciousness and footwork and ability to confuse the thrower. Julie Corletto’s smarts, work ethic and physical ability. Just to name a few 😉
SHARNI: Couldn’t pick one, but the GF last year in double overtime comes pretty close. It’s hard to keep your mind of the task at hand and not get caught up in the outcome when you’ve been playing for 75 minutes and there’s so much on the line – it’s near impossible to keep a calm head.
SHARNI: I love the gym and high intensity interval training. I’m all about working hard for a short amount of time and building muscle to be strong. Also love boxing. Just need variety – it’s the spice of life!
SHARNI: Sammy Wallace for NSW Swifts, Rob Wright has a great eye for talent and has done well here. She is a dynamic, tall, versatile shooter that is going to cause a lot of teams and defenders headaches! I also love her personality and cheek on the court!
