Super Netball – Let the story of 2019 begin
We love pre-season. Why? As fans we go on a journey that starts well before the first centre pass is thrown; we get to see the sweat and the hard work that goes into becoming an elite netballer. Pre-season invites us to keep turning the page on a season that may just be the best yet.
Every season is like a great novel. The highs, the lows, the battles, the villains, emergence of rising stars and our heroes at their best. Pre-season is the opening chapter or two of this novel. The start slowly pulls back the curtain to reveal your team, its people and sets the scene.
All great novels need to hook you in early and, we feel, the teaser to the 2019 season has done that in bucket loads.
Yeah, sure – we are getting to seeing the world’s best play great netball – and the official SSN pre-season competition in the brand-spanking-new Brisbane venue certainly provided brilliant netball to fans in the venue and on the couch at home via the Netball Live APP.
It delivered all the elements of a great drama. We watched the Collingwood Magpies grasp an emotional and long-awaited victory, we saw teams playing ‘cat & mouse’ with line-ups and young players showing their coaches that they can ‘handle the big time’.
But there’s much more to this story. And we’re loving it!
The back stories of the pre-season; players switching Clubs; recruitment anguish and selection joy, coaches departing Clubs; former international players joining coaching staff; the gutsy players returning from injury and the debutants giving blood, sweat and tears to the opportunity of the season that lays before them. We have real stories of great interest and intrigue every page we turn.
So let’s shine a light on some of the stories throughout the pre-season. Stories that tap into the heart of what being a fan means; the excitement, the joy, the pain and the anticipation of what the next chapter of the 2019 Suncorp Super Netball season will bring.
We say, bring it on!
